Introduction to Calligraphy with Ali

Discover the joy of beautiful writing at this relaxed and inspiring Modern Calligraphy Workshop with local artist Ali Roberts.

Created especially for beginners, this welcoming session is a chance to slow down, switch off from the week, and immerse yourself in the mindful art of modern calligraphy. With its gentle rhythm and flowing letterforms, working with a dip pen is both calming and creatively rewarding – the perfect blend of creativity and wellbeing.

Ali will guide you through the essential foundations, showing you how to hold and use a traditional dip pen, build confident strokes, and form elegant letters before bringing them together into words and phrases. With her supportive, encouraging teaching style, you’ll receive plenty of individual guidance, along with helpful tips and tricks to build your confidence as you practise.

You’ll be welcomed with a glass of bubbles on arrival, and the session will end with a delicious homemade cream tea with jam, lemon curd and clotted cream, alongside a selection of hot drinks available throughout the workshop. All materials are provided for use on the day, and you’ll take home a beautifully designed course booklet to continue practising your new skills.

A small selection of carefully chosen calligraphy supplies will also be available to purchase should you wish to continue your lettering journey at home.
