Accessibility
At Stanwell House, our highest priority is ensuring that your stay with us is as comfortable, relaxing, and stress-free as possible. We understand that planning ahead can make all the difference, which is why we aim to provide full transparency about our facilities.
As a historic Grade II listed Georgian property located on Lymington High Street, our hotel naturally reflects the character and architecture of its period. This means that we are unable to provide as much accessibility as we would like. There are steps leading up to the front entrance, which may present challenges for some guests. To assist, we do have a mobile ramp, handrails and our friendly staff are always happy to provide support when needed, but there are some places in the hotel that are just not possible to get to for wheelchair users or guests with limited mobility.
Inside the hotel, we have ground-floor Terrace Rooms available. There are three sets of two to three steps to access these rooms, but these are compatible with our mobile ramp. We are happy to help, but please bear in mind that this can take some time to set up. The other Garden rooms are found on the first floor, which are accessed by a staircase similar in style and height to what you might have at home, as opposed to a sweeping hotel staircase or fire exit stairwell. The Georgian rooms are accessed by a number of different staircases, varying in style and length, including the original flagstone staircase in the main foyer, which is winding and uneven.
The Orangery is the most accessible dining area, though it also has small steps that we can use the ramp for. We are also happy to provide room service, whichever you find most convenient.
We are committed to making your stay enjoyable and as accessible as possible. If you have special requirements, we encourage you to contact us ahead of your visit or at the time of booking. This allows us to prepare and ensure we can fully support your needs, making your experience with us seamless and enjoyable.
At Stanwell House, we are always happy to help in any way we can, and we look forward to welcoming you. Find out more about parking and how to get to us.
The Front Entrance
The hotel's main entrance has three steps, which may pose a challenge for guests with mobility needs. To ensure everyone can enter safely and comfortably, we provide a portable ramp that can be used to assist with access. Our staff are happy to set up the ramp upon request to make your arrival as smooth as possible.
Terrace Rooms
Our ground-floor Terrace Rooms are the most accessible options in the hotel. They are dog-friendly and offer direct access to the terrace. Access to the garden involves a single, steep step, which is not a level threshold. The rooms themselves are reached via three sets of two to three small steps, but we provide a portable ramp and are happy to assist in any way we can. Please let us know in advance if you have any specific accessibility requirements.
Let us help
Everyone’s needs are different, and we’d love to help make your visit as smooth and enjoyable as possible. Give us a call on 01590 677123 or send us an email in advance, and we’ll be happy to assist with any arrangements.
The Orangery
The Orangery is the most accessible area for guests with mobility issues, featuring two small steps that work with our portable ramp. To access the terrace, there are two steps from The Orangery and a larger step through the doorway. Please note that, unfortunately, the terrace is not wheelchair accessible.
Samphire
Our restaurant, Samphire, may be more challenging to access for guests with limited mobility. It is reached from The Orangery via three steep steps, which unfortunately cannot accommodate our portable ramp. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and encourage guests to speak with our staff for alternative arrangements or assistance.
Salt Bar
Our Salt Bar may be difficult to access for guests with limited mobility. Reaching the bar from the main entrance requires navigating six steep steps, including a landing step midway. Unfortunately, this area of the hotel is not wheelchair accessible. We apologise for any inconvenience and encourage guests to speak with our staff for guidance or alternative arrangements.
FAQs
Is Stanwell House wheelchair accessible?
Due to the historic nature of our Georgian building, there are steps at the front entrance. We do have a mobile ramp available, and our staff are happy to assist with entry. Please let us know in advance if you’ll need support.
Are there accessible rooms available?
We have ground-floor rooms, but all have small steps. Contact us ahead of booking so we can guide you to the most suitable room.
Are your restaurants accessible?
The Orangery is the most accessible option in the hotel. It does have small steps, and staff are available to assist.
Is your private dining/event space accessible?
Our events and dining space itself is wheelchair friendly; however, there are 4 sets of 2-3 small steps to access this room. Whilst we can use the ramp, this can be a lengthy process, but we are happy to discuss this with you depending on your mobility. This is similar to our garden area from the events space; however, wheelchair access is difficult due to unlevel ground through the doors.
Can I get help with luggage or other mobility needs?
Our team is happy to assist with luggage, ramps, or any other support you may need to make your stay comfortable.
Are there accessible parking options nearby?
There is a drop-off point outside the hotel; however, we do not have accessible or disabled car parking spaces. Find out more about the parking available.
Are there lifts in the hotel?
Due to the Georgian architecture, we do not have a lift. Ground-floor rooms are available, and staff assistance can be provided for upper floors.
Are guide dogs or assistance animals welcome?
We welcome guide dogs and assistance animals. Please inform us ahead of time so we can make your stay comfortable for both you and your companion in our dog friendly rooms.
Do you have accessible bathrooms or showers?
Unfortunately, our bathrooms are not accessible; some of our rooms in the hotel do have walk-in showers. Please contact us, and we can help discuss these options.
